About Us

Our History

Pleasant Hill was established in 1871 and still meets in the same location. There have been three different primary sanctuaries with the present one sitting on the original location. Many preachers have been called from this congregation over the years. We have hosted an annual VBS for many years. We currently also serve as the host church for an annual pre-teen retreat at church camp. We have had an active ladies auxiliary for many years. We pray that Jesus will find us continuing to be faithful when He returns.

Our Beliefs

We believe that the Bible is true and trustworthy. We preach and teach from the Bible. We are a Christ-centered church. We pray that all we do brings honor and glory to Him.

God – God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He exists eternally in the form of three persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These three are all equal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1, 26, 27/Psalm 90:2/Matthew 28:19/1 Peter 1:2)

Jesus Christ – Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. He was born of a virgin. He lived a perfect, sinless life. He offered Himself as a sacrifice for all by willingly dying on the cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended back into Heaven. He will return again as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Isaiah 9:6/Matthew 1:22,23/John 1:1-5,14/Romans 1:3,4/Hebrews 1:1-3)

Holy Spirit – The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for a savior in Jesus Christ and to draw them to Him. He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides understanding and guidance. The Christian should seek to follow His guidance in their lives. (John 14:6,7/16:7-13/Acts 1:8/1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16/Galatians 5:25/Ephesians 1:13)

The Bible – The Bible is God’s word to all mankind. It was written by human authors through the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the source of truth for Christians. Since it is the inspired word of God, it is without error. (Psalm 119:105,160/Proverbs 30:5/II Timothy 3:16/II Peter 1:20,21)

Man – Man was created in the image of God. He is not the product of evolution. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Man is marred by disobedience to God. This is called sin. Sin separates man from God. (Genesis 1:26/Romans 3:23)

Salvation- Salvation is a gift from God to man. Because God is perfectly holy, man can never make up for his sin by works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer for forgiveness can man be saved from the penalty of sin. Eternal life begins the moment that one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith. (John 1:12, 3:16-18, 14:6/Romans 5:1, 6:23/Ephesians 2:8-10/Titus 3:5)

Eternity – Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God in Hell or in the presence of God in Heaven through salvation. (John 3:16-18/Romans 6:23/1 John 2:25, 5:11-13/Revelation 20:15)

Security – Because God gives man eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ, the Christian is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not the efforts of the Christian. It is the grace and power of God that gives security. (John 10:29/II Timothy 1:12/Hebrews 7:25, 10:10-14/I Peter 1:3-5)

Church – Jesus established His church during His earthly ministry. The church is a local body of saved and baptized believers covenanted together that meet regularly for worship, fellowship, and carrying out the Great Commission. (Matthew 16:18, 28:18-20/Hebrews 10:25)

Baptism and The Lord’s Supper – Jesus gave His church two pictorial ordinances. Neither of these ordinances offers salvation. Scriptural baptism is the immersion of a believer in water as an act of public identification with Jesus Christ. The Lord’s Supper is a time for church members to remember the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus. (Acts 8:26-39, I Corinthians 11)
